Biography

Rebecca A. Miles (Stepek) was born, educated, and established her first career in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From her work as a psychologist specializing in cancer care, she became a recognized expert on grief, the grieving process, and the psychology of dealing with loss.

Throughout the successful Pittsburgh Murder Mystery trilogy, Ground Truth, Broken Glass, Locked Box, she explores the themes of love and loss, two states that she considers to be universal in human experience. As the series unfolds, her main characters reveal themselves as people who are psychologically flawed, literate, funny, and often courageous in their search for the murderer. A few romances emerge and bloom across the three novels.

Miles portrays deep and lasting friendships as the healing salve for the personal and public losses that on visited on victims of crime, and especially in the life of amateur sleuth Dr. Kate Chambers and Chief Detective Stefan Jablonsky. When her readers finish the last page of each novel, they are satisfied that Kate, Johnny, Joan, Jablonsky, Dr. Patel, and Antoine DeVille have meted out justice and continue to thrive through their collaboration and loyal friendships.

Locked Box has reached Best Seller status on Amazon. In the Amateur Sleuth category it reached a rating of #3, and #12 in Women Sleuths.

In these early months of 2025, Miles is knee-deep in research for her fourth stand-alone novel tentatively entitled, La Quinceañera.
